WEIRD GAMES FOR WEIRD PEOPLE
01 / BIOGRAPHY
Will is a game designer and environment artist from Ohio. After graduating high school in 2011, he served as an artilleryman in the U.S. Army from 2011 to 2014, including a deployment to Afghanistan. After leaving the Army, he decided to pursue game development and went on to earn a B.S. in Game Art and an M.S. in Game Design from Full Sail University.
Will’s background blends both the artistic and design sides of game development. He has experience in environment art, level design, game design, game development, and game testing, including professional work under NDA. He’s worked as both a level designer and environment artist, and his time in game testing and QA has given him a strong sense of how games feel from both the developer and player perspectives.
Over the years, Will has been slowly building his own approach to making games. He loves creating detailed environments, designing spaces that tell stories without exposition, and crafting atmospheric experiences that linger with players.
02 / INFLUENCES
- My approach to game development is influenced by a mix of things that don’t always seem connected at first.
I’m heavily influenced by horror that builds tension through atmosphere, isolation, environmental storytelling, and the feeling that something is wrong without immediately explaining why.
Older video games are a big influence too—especially games that had to do a lot with limited technology and relied on level design, atmosphere, sound, visual composition, and player imagination instead of raw graphical detail.
Environmental storytelling is at the core of my work. I like spaces that feel lived-in and tell a story through what the player finds, sees, and notices. I enjoy hiding small details in environments even when most players will probably miss them.
My background in the military and artillery shapes how I think about spaces, environments, equipment, and storytelling. It feeds into my interest in military history, realistic details, abandoned or utilitarian environments, and how people move through physical spaces.
I’m also influenced by punk rock and DIY culture—the idea of making something because you want it to exist, not because someone gave you permission. That attitude is a big part of how I approach independent game development and Roach Clip Games.
I have a strong appreciation for weird, unconventional, and dark humor. Not everything I make needs to take itself completely seriously. I like mixing unsettling or serious ideas with strange details and humor when it fits.
As a game designer, I’m especially interested in the intersection of environment, atmosphere, player exploration, and storytelling. I want players to notice things, wonder about things, and sometimes stop and think, “What the hell is that?”
These influences don’t define every game Roach Clip Games will make, but they’re a big part of the creative foundation behind the studio.
03 / PHILOSOPHY
Roach Clip Games is the independent studio Will is building to bring all of these interests together. After years of learning different parts of game development and working on other people’s projects, he’s now focused on creating and releasing his own games.
The first Roach Clip Games title is currently in alpha and is planned to be the studio’s first release. For now, the studio is a one-person operation, but the long-term goal is to grow over time, take on larger projects, and collaborate with other developers and creatives.
The aim is simple: make weird, atmospheric games for weird people—games that feel personal, a little rough around the edges, and unlike what you’d find from a big studio.
